The Lincolns by Candace Fleming
The Lincolns: A Scrapbook Look at Abraham and Mary, by Candace Fleming, reviewed by Laura Pache, Butman-Fish Library children’s librarian (Schwartz & Wade Books, 2008, 181 pages, $ 24.99, recommended for children ages 9 and up)
The author is “a girl from Illinois” who felt a connectedness and familiarity to the Lincolns. She wanted to tell their life story in a unique way by combining their life stories in scrapbook form. In telling their story in this visual way, it brings their lives to life. Get to know the Lincolns by pouring over photographs, reading antidotes, and reading parts of love letters, and recipes. Learn about the times they lived in and see what their America was like. The book is organized by themes and not chronologically. However, a chronology is included in the beginning of the book. Enjoy.
