Katy Duck is a Caterpillar by Alyssa Capucilli

Katy Duck Is a Caterpillar, by Alyssa Capucilli, reviewed by Cheryl Kay, Hoyt Library, Children’s Department
(Little Simon, 2009, $14.99, unpaged)
Recommended for ages 2 - 5.

It’s Spring! It’s Katy Duck’s favorite time of the year and Mr. Tutu just announced that in a few weeks there will be a dance recital. Katy can hardly wait to see which part Mr. Tutu will select her for; a bright yellow daffodil, a graceful swan, a flittering baby bird, or a colorful ladybug. A caterpillar? But caterpillars crawl on the ground. They are not graceful; they don’t flutter or glide, or have bright yellow petals. Can Katy dance the part of caterpillar? This is a charming story about how every part, no matter how small, plays a significant role.
