The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti
The Good Thief, by Hannah Tinti, reviewed by Deborah Trombley, Teen/Adult Reference, Butman-Fish Library
(Dial Press, 327 pages, $25.00, 2008)
If you appreciate off-beat characters like I do, you will enjoy this cross between Huck Finn and Oliver Twist. Tinti takes us back through time to give us the story of Ren, a one-handed orphan whose adoption prospects are quite bleak. Ren has spent his whole life trying to unravel the mystery of his missing hand and missing family. The Good Thief is a well-written, engaging adventure tale with strong appeal to anyone who likes good old-fashioned story telling. This would make a great read aloud for teens and adults.
