Ottoline and the Yellow Cat by Chris Riddell

Ottoline and the Yellow Cat, by Chris Riddell, reviewed by Tanya Grunwell, Hoyt Library Children’s Department
HarperCollins, 2008, 176 pages, $10.99
(Recommended for ages 9-12)

Meet Ottoline, a spunky, super-sleuthing, mistress of disguise…and probably about nine years old. She lives to solve mysteries along with her friend Mr. Munroe, a small, hairy creature from a bog in Norway, who was found by Ottoline’s parents on one of their many trips around the world to collect interesting things. Will the two be able to use their skills to discover who is behind the rash of burglaries in the neighborhood? Riddell’s entertaining illustrations tell just as much of the story as the superb writing. More adventures await her in two upcoming titles, Ottoline Goes to School and Ottoline at Sea.
