Mutiny by David Hagberg and Boris Gindin
Mutiny: The True Events that Inspired “The Hunt for Red October” by David Hagberg and Boris Gindin; reviewed by John Sheridan, Hoyt Library, Local History and Genealogy Collection
(Forge, 2008, $25.95, 381 pp.)
Tom Clancy based his novel, “The Hunt for Red October,” on the 1975 mutiny aboard the Soviet frigate Storozhevoy. The true story on which the novel is based is more fascinating and poignant. Boris Gindin, the officer in charge of the engine room on the Storozhevoy during the mutiny, gives a first-hand account. He reveals why the crew mutinied, and the punishments suffered by mutineers and loyalists alike after it was suppressed.
