Chosen by Horse by Susan Richards

Chosen by a Horse : How a Broken Horse Fixed a Broken Heart, by Susan Richards , reviewed by Jeanine Collison, Reference /Business Librarian, Hoyt Library
(Harcourt, 2006, 248 pages, $13.00)
Susan Richards writes this moving and inspirational memoir about the starving and abused horse, “Lay Me Down” that she rescues through the local SPCA, and tenderly illustrates how profoundly humans and animals bond to heal each other. Richards, who as a child, lost her mother, was abandoned by her father, and had her marriage end in divorce, draws you into her experience with the gentle, loving, “Lay Me Down” so beautifully, you will laugh and cry and feel as though she is someone you know. This is an unforgettable read for all animal lovers, one you will not be able to put down until the last tear.
