The Crossroads by Chris Grabenstein

The Crossroads, by Chris Grabenstein, reviewed by Kathy Thornhill, Children’s Librarian , Zauel Memorial Library
(Random House, 2008, $16.99, 325 pages)
Recommended for grades 4-6.

When 11-year-old Zack, his father and stepmother move to rural Connecticut, he becomes the target of a bitter old woman and the vindictive ghost of her sweetheart, killed in a fiery crash along with 40 others. His spirit has inhabited the tree at the crossroads since then. During a storm, lightning frees the evil ghost, intent on wreaking vengeance on the one he blames for his untimely death through his descendent—Zack.

Ghosts, both good and evil, possession, secrets and murder with fast paced action combine to make The Crossroads a page turner.
