When Men Become Gods by Stephen Singular
When Men Become Gods : Mormon Polygamist Warren Jeffs, His Cult of Fear, and the Women Who Fought Back, by Stephen Singular, reviewed by Jeanine Collison, Reference/Business Librarian, Hoyt Library (St. Martin’s Press, 2008, 294 pages, $24.95)
With the Texas polygamist movement recently in the news, this well researched work by New York Times bestselling author Stephen Singular is both timely and unsettling. Singular’s book is thorough and nonjudgemental, as he chronicles the dark, cult-like polygamist fundamentalist Latter Day Saint sect of self-proclaimed prophet Warren Jeffs and his followers. The author traces Jeff’s rise to power and details the efforts of law enforcement, government investigators and a group of former wives, to expose and build a case against the secluded, hidden world of polygamist movements in this country.
This is a fascinating read, and a valuable examination of the road to justice in the Jeff’s case.
