The Secret Zoo by Bryan Chick

The Secret Zoo by Bryan Chick, reviewed by Jennie Tuttle, Children’s Department, Wickes Library
(Second Wish Press, 2007, $5.99, 252 pages)
(Recommended for ages 9-12)

Inspired by his own visits to the Detroit Zoo, first-time Michigan author Bryan Chick’s story is packed with action, suspense, and animals. Nine-year-old Megan Nowicki see strange things happening at the Clarksville Zoo and writes about them in her journal until she mysteriously disappears one night. Following baffling pieces of Megan’s journal left by zoo animals, the Adventure Scouts, her brother Noah and their best friends Ella and Richie, embark on a mission to find Megan and rescue her. What they discover behind the zoo’s walls is beyond their greatest imaginations.
