Three Little Words by Ashley Rhodes-Courter
Three Little Words: A Memoir, by Ashley Rhodes-Courter, reviewed by Brenda Rodammer, Hoyt Library
(Atheneum, 2008, 320 pages, $17.99)
Mature beyond her years, Ashley Rhodes-Courter describes her experiences in a foster care system that truly failed her. Being snatched away from her birth mother at an early age with no explanation leaves this little girl reluctant to trust anyone, and rightly so. Surviving being shuffled through 14 different homes in 9 years, some of them abusive, she triumphed over adversity. She paints a disturbing picture of a system that we need to fix for the future of all the children in it! You’ll be cheering at the end of the story when the author discovers the true definition of love with her adoptive family. A must read for anyone who cares about the welfare of children.
