This is a stirring novel of love and courage for young and older readers. The story begins several years after the end of the novel's prequel, How I Found the Strong, at Frank Russell’s wedding where twelve-year old Addy O'Donnell, of the famous and feared O'Donnell clan, is abandoned by her momma. After the newlywed couple take Addy in, she does everything she can to fit in. But when Addy witnesses a terrible act of hatred, her pappy shows up and takes her back to the clan. Now can Addy find the courage and do what is right? Can she betray one of her own?
