Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton, reviewed by Cheryl Kay, Hoyt Library Children’s Department
(Sterling, 2007, $16.95, unpaged)
Recommended for ages 4 - 8.
Many of us grew up singing the timeless folk song of Puff the Magic Dragon, now with the help of illustrator, Eric Puybaret, you can open this book and walk into Puff’s enchanted world of Honalee. Puybaret’s illustrations capture the magical charm of a child’s imaginary play land. As in the song, Jackie Paper and his childhood friend, Puff, share unforgettable adventures until it’s time for Jackie to grow up and move on. But the book doesn’t end there, it continues on with a new friend, a new generation, to share the magic of Puff and Honalee.
Inside the back cover the reader will find a wonderful musical CD recorded by Peter Yarrow and his daughter Bethany accompanied by cellist Rufus Cappadocia.
