DeFect by Will Weaver
DeFect, by Will Weaver, reviewed by Deborah Trombley, Teen/Adult Reference Librarian, Butman-Fish Library
(Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2007, 199 pages, $16.00)
Recommended for grades 7 and up
Talk about a bully magnet, he smells bad, his face is a disaster, he eats bugs and he has webbing under his armpits that makes flight possible. Anybody in high school knows that being different isn't usually a good thing, but for fifteen year old David these differences give new meaning to the hit parade. Fearing for his survival his mother sends him off to Minnesota to live with the Trotwoods, kindly hog farmers/foster parents. However, when David’s affinity for flight is discovered, desperate people descend on the town and the “angel” to be healed.
