Woman in Red by Eileen Goudge

Woman in Red by Eileen Goudge, reviewed by Trish Burns, Library Director

(Vanguard Press, 2007, 355 pages, $24.95)

Alice Kessler loses her son to a drunk driver, loses her husband because of the wrongful death suit she filed against the driver, loses the suit itself, and finally temporarily loses her mind as she runs down her son’s killer in her own car. When she emerges from jail nine years later, she finds it harder than she imagined to make a new start on the small island that was her home. The story moves between the present and 1942 as secrets are revealed that allow Alice redemption and the promise of a happy ending. The story is somewhat predictable, but still a satisfying read.
