The Gulps by Rosemary Wells

The Gulps, by Rosemary Wells, reviewed Amy Knickerbocker, Zauel Children's Department
(Little, Brown Young Readers, 2007, $16.99, 40 pp)
Recommended for ages 4-8

The Gulp family’s vacation comes to a halt when their RV breaks down. Slim sister Dawn tells her super sized junk-food eating family, “this family is too fat to roll!” Farmer Spratt rescues the family and invites them to share a healthy meal of salad and an outing to the county fair. Reality of the Gulp’s physical condition hits home after a dance platform and wagon collapse under their weight. Silly yet supportive of an important issue
