The Nasty Bits, by Anthony Bourdain
The Nasty Bits: collected varietal cuts, usable trim, scraps and bones
by Anthony Bourdain, reviewed by Kate Tesdell, Hoyt Library
Bloomsbury, 288 pages, 2006 $24.95
Bourdain is not so much a diamond in the rough as a chunk of chipped concrete. In this collection of stories and columns, he treats readers to views both earthy and philosophical.
This book is not for those with delicate sensibilities. The language is gloriously descriptive but often crude and the adventures frequently are fueled by liberal use of alcohol.
Most of us will never eat chicken feet or fried bugs. Readers following Bourdain across the world will be delighted they made the trip – provided they know ahead of time that the road is often fairly rough and rugged.
