Welcome to Zanzibar Road by Niki Daly

Welcome to Zanzibar Road, Story and Pictures by Niki Daly, reviewed by Laura Pache, Children’s Librarian, Butman-Fish Branch
(Clarion Books, 2006, $16.00, 31 pages) Recommended for ages 4-7

“One hot day in Africa, Mama Jumbo was walking down Zanzibar Road.” Here Mama Jumbo builds a house, with the help of her neighbors. She adopts a chicken, Chico, because something is missing in her new home. She can’t find Chico, because he is on her head hiding. She calms Chico’s night fear of a shadow that is cast by a new plant by dressing it up to resemble her self. And she throws a party for Chico that ends with all the neighbors attending. This is a humorous book that your preschooler will ask you to read again and again.
