Sold, by Patricia McCormick, reviewed by Amy Churchill, Reference Librarian, Hoyt Library
Hyperion, 2006, $15.95, 263 pages

Sold is the shocking and heartbreaking story of 13-year-old Lakshmi’s life as a sex slave in India. Sold into prostitution by her family, she struggles to survive her cruel new life in the brothel and to ultimately gain her freedom. Unfortunately, Lakshmi’s story is shared by thousands of women in India, making this an important read for all students.
