Slow Moon by Elizabeth Cox
Slow Moon, by Elizabeth Cox, reviewed by Angela Barris, Claytor Library
(Random House, 2006, $23.95, 300 pages)
This is written in the fashion of Lovely Bones and My Sister’s Keeper. It haunts you until you sit down and finish reading it. The characters are so memorable that you feel you know them as family or neighbors. Who assaulted Sophie? Why did Crow run away? Elizabeth Cox recounts the events leading up to the fateful night; then shines a light into the lives of the parents, friends, teachers and neighbors all connected to the young lovers in a small Tennessee town. Suspicions divide the town and the reader learns that everyone may have something to hide. Finding the courage to admit the truth, and then live with the revelation is both heartbreaking and hopeful.
