Recommended for children in 4th-6th Grade
Erin was on her way to see her estranged mother and lost her ticket. At the bus station, she met Mae and her brother Levi who were joining a group of hikers touring the Sierra Nevada Mountains. An outdoor enthusiast who was unsure about seeing her mother, Erin decided to join the group on their trek. A freak thunderstorm separated the group, and Erin and Mae summon all the survival skills they ever learned as they find their way back down the mountain. Their rescue is realistic, as they scavenge food and make shelter during the cold nights. Erin resolves her conflict about her mother, becoming open to reconciliation. A page turning addition to the adventure-survival genre.
