Scribner, 2005, 501 pages $25.95
Set in the author’s home town of Natchez, Mississippi, this murder mystery grabs you from the beginning. A high school girl is found dead near the river, with the local town doctor as the main suspect. Iles does a great job of interlacing the typical image of a small town with the reality of what goes on in the social lives of today’s teenagers.
